The Hirosaki Neputa Matsuri festival is designated as an important intangible folk cultural heritage of Japan. The “Neputa Bayashi” festival folk music brings together rallying cries of festival participants and the sounds of musical instruments such as drums, flutes and gongs aimed at encouraging souls onto Neputa paper floats and firing up the blood of Tsugaru region folk.
From end October to early November
The festival is held at the Hirosaki Castle Botanical Garden in an area of Hirosaki Park abundant with fresh green pine tree leaves and colored maple leaves. Guests can enjoy the beautiful sights of Chrysanthemums, Chrysanthemum-flower dolls and other autumn flowers in the garden.
Beginning of February
About 200 snow lanterns and 300 igloos will light up the garden. A fantastic, dreamy world comes to life when warm candlelight appears in the gathering darkness. The sight of the illuminated old Hirosaki Castle and glimmering snow structures will transport visitors into a world of fantasy.
